Terror Finance at Home and Abroad; Ideas Have Consequences

By Winfield Myers ● Aug 27, 2025

Smart Brevity® count: 8 mins...2094 words

Sam Westrop's latest report exposes how the U.K. office of Human Appeal, a wealthy Western Islamist organization with offices worldwide, has handed millions of dollars to proxies and supporters of the designated terrorist organization Hamas. Benjamin Baird continues his account of how the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security provided hundreds of millions of dollars to organizations involved with designated terrorist organizations, as detailed in his report released last month.

A.J. Caschetta explains how widespread academic use of violent rhetoric in the service of radical antisemitism and revolution leads directly to physical assault and even murder. Michael Rubin excoriates the U.N., journalists, and European officials for falsely accusing Israel of genocide and calls on the Israel's leaders to eliminate Hamas.

Babak Taghvaee reports that France's decision to block visas for the security teams of El Al, Israel's national airline, showcases Paris's shameful efforts to appease Hamas's patrons and homegrown radicals. Finally, Giulio Meotti recounts the growing acceptance of age-old antisemitic myths in European capitals, the press, and the U.N.

Terror-Aligned Charity Human Appeal Should Be Prosecuted, Not Publicly Funded

By: Sam Westrop

Just a few years after a change in leadership and a promise to "transform" its operations, Human Appeal, a prominent and wealthy Western Islamist organization with offices across the globe, has handed millions of dollars to proxies and supporters of the designated terrorist organization Hamas.

Why it matters: But newly uncovered archived webpages indicate that Human Appeal's U.K. office worked to "form" the U.K. contingent of the Union of Good, a terror-financing umbrella organization later designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government, which described it as "an organization created by Hamas leadership to transfer funds to the terrorist organization."

  • Over the past few years, accounts filed by Human Appeal's headquarters in the U.K. report millions of dollars of financial transfers to groups in Gaza that work closely and publicly with the Hamas terrorist regime.

  • Despite the repeated allegations of extremism and terror financing directed at Human Appeal, Western governments and financial institutions have repeatedly partnered with the radical charity.

Background: Human Appeal head Mohamed Ashmawey appears to have a long history of involvement with Islamist causes, including a stint with the Kuwait-based International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO), a terror-aligned charity that previously publicly partnered with the late Hamas terror leaders Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar. Today, IICO describes Human Appeal as one of its partners.

  • Events organized by Human Appeal U.K. and Human Appeal USA have repeatedly featured extremist preachers who have expressed openly anti-Jewish, racist and pro-terror rhetoric.

Denials and evidence: Human Appeal U.K. denies any connection to Human Appeal in the U.A.E, which intelligence agencies have accused of extensive terror-financing activities.

  • Human Appeal's denials persist in spite of almost identical historical logos and an archived website hosted by Human Appeal's U.K. office, in which the U.A.E. Human Appeal is listed as a "regional office."

  • Former staff, like Moin Shubib, have alleged ties to Hamas leadership.

Benjamin Baird on Homeland Insecurity: How the DHS Helped Finance Islamist Terror

MEF's February 2025 report
By: Marilyn Stern

Benjamin Baird, director of MEF Action, discussed the Middle East Forum's July 2025 report on Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) funding of extremist groups during a recent MEF Podcast.

Why it matters: The report highlights over $25 million allocated to extremist groups in the U.S., some linked to foreign terrorist organizations.

  • DHS grants have supported groups promoting extremism and hatred, exposing an unacceptable lack of vetting and transparency.

Key programs under scrutiny: The Nonprofit Security Grant Program, Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Program, and DHS's Disaster Relief Fund.

  • Despite its aim to secure places of worship, the Nonprofit Security Grant Program has been misused to fund groups with extremist ties.

Systemic issues identified: The Nonprofit Security Grant Program had a particularly egregious problem during the Biden presidency because his administration paired with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) to promote the Nonprofit Security Grant Program's grant program. CAIR, a Hamas-aligned organization, was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator by a federal court judge during the Holy Land Foundation trial.

  • Failures in vetting and transparency are exacerbated by political influences and "woke politics."

What's next: MEF calls for permanent safeguards and reforms to ensure federal funds do not support extremist groups.

  • DHS Secretary Kristi Noem's recent mandate for security reviews is a step towards better vetting, but more comprehensive measures are needed.

  • The problem stems largely from an unwieldy bureaucracy that for years was staffed by "woke careerists." It will take more than one administration to vet "the culture that they created."

Radical U – Part 2: How Students Turned Their Professors' Words into Deeds

Campus radicals
By: A.J. Caschetta

When Elias Rodriguez murdered Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, a young Jewish couple, in front of the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C., he shouted the now-familiar chant "Free Free Palestine," pulled out a keffiyeh, and said, "I did it for Gaza."

Why it matters: It is no mystery where Rodriguez was indoctrinated with hatred for Israelis, Jews, and Zionists. Rodriguez's actions are linked to ideologies prevalent in academia, where anti-Israel movements have grown more aggressive since 2021.

  • The National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) released a "Day of Resistance Toolkit," aligning themselves with movements endorsing violence.

Transpassing theory: The phrase "solidarity that transpasses theory" in academic discourse signifies moving from rhetoric to violent action.

  • Whatever their etymological intentions, using the phrase "a solidarity that transpasses theory" was clearly meant to be an erudite way to indicate action and imply violence.

  • Rodriguez's "manifesto" reflects his belief in "armed action," influenced by his academic environment.

Historical parallels: The shift from protest to violence mirrors historical patterns of radical movements, where rhetoric gave way to terrorism.

  • Academic calls for "praxis" have evolved into actions mirroring those of past anarchists and revolutionaries.

The stakes: As Andrew Fox recently put it, "the spiral from slur to slogan to stone is always shorter than we think." This is an apt description of academia's pushing the envelope from words to chants to violence.

  • The "praxis" call to action in 2021 led inexorably to the "transpassers" of theory in 2023.

False Genocide Charges Don't Help Palestinians

Given a choice between truth and antisemitism, U.N. Secretary General António Guterres, above, and the leaders of political advocacy organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch ...
By: Michael Rubin

Israeli actions are unfairly vilified: For decades, international bodies and media have distorted the nature and outcome of Israeli defensive actions while ignoring the context of Palestinian terror.

Why it matters: False narratives and exaggerated allegations, like the "Jenin Massacre," taint Israel's image and fuel global antisemitism.

  • The U.N. and E.U. have consistently failed to investigate how aid enabled Hamas's military build-up, choosing bias over truth.

The reality of restraint: Israeli restraint was also behind its so-called "mowing the lawn" strategy: Whenever Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad launched missiles or attacks on Israel or neared the capability to do so, Israel would engage in pin-prick attacks to degrade terrorist capabilities.

  • It was the ultimate kick-the-can-down-the-road strategy that cost the lives of 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023, but the Israelis sought to walk the tightrope between tactical effectiveness while shielding themselves from international criticism.

Global hypocrisy: As the U.N. redefines famine to fit biased narratives, it ignores Hamas's abuse of aid, choosing propaganda over accountability.

  • Western media's support for terrorists masquerading as journalists underscores a dangerous double standard.

The bottom line: Israel must prioritize its national security over international opinion, focusing on eradicating Hamas despite inevitable false accusations. The global community's selective outrage against Israel reveals a deep-seated bias that demands confrontation.

Paris Sides with Extremists, Endangers Israeli Travelers

Pro-Hamas thugs vandalized the El Al office in Paris in August 2025, spraying the building with red paint and writing antisemitic statements. Shutterstock
By: Babak Taghvaee

On August 7, 2025, pro-Palestinian activists vandalized El Al's Paris office, and soon after, France halted work visas for El Al's Israeli security staff.

Why it matters: El Al is unique among global airlines in that it relies on its own security personnel abroad, rather than local staff, to safeguard passengers. This system has prevented numerous terror attacks since the 1970s.

  • This suspension cripples El Al's ability to ensure passenger safety amid rising anti-Israel sentiment in France.

  • The French government's decision prioritizes bureaucratic comfort over human life, undermining El Al's renowned security measures that have thwarted terror attacks since the 1970s.

Political maneuvering: President Emmanuel Macron's government justified its move by citing complaints from French diplomats subjected to what they called "systematic screening" by El Al security personnel at Charles de Gaulle Airport.

  • Israel denied visas for 27 French lawmakers from the Communist and Green parties who planned to visit Jerusalem and Ramallah. Israeli authorities cited their support for initiatives that undermine Israel's security, including campaigns to recognize a Palestinian state.

  • Macron's close ties with Qatar and appeasement of radicalized domestic groups further influence France's policies.

Security risks rise: Without credentialed security staff, El Al faces heightened threats, as exemplified by recent provocations, including a French air traffic controller's reckless "Free Palestine" broadcast.

  • These actions reveal France's willingness to endanger lives for political gain.

The bottom line: France's actions expose a government more concerned with appeasing Hamas's patrons and domestic Islamists than ensuring aviation safety. Israel and its allies must respond decisively to protect their interests and citizens.

The Rebirth of Myths: Those Jews Are Poisoning the Wells Again

WWII gold star Jews had to wear in German and occupied Europe. With the war in Gaza, all the old false accusations and legends of bloodshed perpetrated by the people of Israel have returned. Shutters...
By: Giulio Meotti

In addition to the baseless, bigoted claims that Jews are poisoning wells, spreading diseases, trafficking organs and killing infants, the Jews have once again proven themselves greedy, and despite millions of tons of food sent into Gaza, are starving people. With the Gaza war, all the old accusations and blood legends against the people of Israel have returned.

Why it matters: These false claims, echoed by global media and leaders, fuel antisemitism and distort reality.

  • On August 17, 2009, Aftonbladet, Sweden's oldest and best-selling newspaper, wrote that the Israeli army, in collusion with the medical establishment, had kidnapped numerous Arabs for their organs.

Global narrative manipulation: Palestinian Authority president-for-life Mahmoud Abbas falsely accused a rabbi of urging the poisoning of Palestinian water, receiving applause in the European Parliament.

  • Senior U.N. official Tom Fletcher propagate exaggerated narratives, claiming thousands of newborns would die in Gaza due to Israeli actions, later debunked.

Media complicity: On the evening of October 17, 2023, an explosion in the parking lot of the Ahli Hospital in Gaza caused many casualties. It was caused by a missile launched from Gaza towards Israel.

  • But Hamas's propaganda office claimed "Israel bombs Gaza hospital, 500 dead." Thus, the Ahli hoax was accepted without scrutiny by the world and Italian media.

  • A few days ago, on Italian television, the Italian U.N. rapporteur Francesca Albanese said: "The Israelis are shooting children in the head and testicles in the food line."

The bottom line: Since the only organ stolen is the brain of Westerners who believe these lies, let's expect someone on European televisions to reveal that the evil Jews are kidnapping Arab children to bake matzah for Passover.
